74th Entry Association 55th Anniversary
The weekend started with a 3 course Sunday lunch on the Severn Valley Railway travelling from Kidderminster Station. A two-hour stop at Bridgenorth allowed us to tour this attractive little town before returning to the hotel for a gathering in the bar for drinks and eats in the evening.
On Monday 28th April 2008 nine members of the association visited the new home of No. 1 School of Technical Training at RAF Cosford. We were met and escorted around the training facilities by Sdn Ldr Graham Lee and allowed to view the modern arrangements for technical training. Explanations of the new facilities and procedures were provided by the Engineering Officers and SNCO instructors.
We then moved on to have lunch in the RAF Museum cafeteria before a leisurely tour of the exhibits including the newly opened Cold War building. Meanwhile, the ladies had their own outing to the Black Country Museum that included an underground tour on a canal boat and much reminiscing about the times when we were all much younger.
On Monday evening we all met up again for dinner in the hotel and then viewed pictures of the two outings on the hotel's public PC. In order to leave our mark, the 74th Entry badge was left on the PC desktop background as a reminder of who we were.
Tony Merry very ably organised the whole event and has to be congratulated for his work to keep up the Spirit of the 74th.

[Editor] Well done Andy for that report. Slim sent an email "Sorry you missed it. A bit disappointing with the turn out of our members".
Flying the Flag for the 74th Entry.

I have one other pic for you. I took this on my mobile phone after Slim and I had "doctored" the hotel computer!
Best regards
Andy

55 in 2008
This may seem an odd heading but it represents the fact that Monday the 28th of April 2008 marked fifty-five years to the day that the 74th Entry arrived at Halton in 1953 to begin our careers in the Royal Air Force.
We marked this milestone with a reunion weekend in the West Midlands. After a night in a hotel in Dudley some 10 men and their ladies gathered at the Kidderminster Town station of the Severn Valley Railway to catch the 12-noon train to Bridgenorth. An excellent three-course lunch was served in the dining car; it is a pleasant and relaxing experience to eat whilst rolling through beautiful countryside.
Monday, the anniversary dawned, and a mini bus arrived at the hotel to take the men to Cosford where a visit to No1 School of Technical Training, a part of the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering, now resides. We were met by Sqn Ldr Graham Lee, Media Communication and Co-ordination Officer, who had arranged a tour of the training facilities for us. Things have certainly progressed in 55 years!!! The afternoon was spent in the RAF museum viewing the exhibits and reminiscing over the aircraft types we had worked on. (Sqn Ldr Lee can be contacted on 01902 377216 if any one wants to consider a similar visit)
During our time at Cosford, the ladies were whisked off to the Black Country Living Museum where they all enjoyed themselves. The evening was spent in the hotel restaurant eating, drinking and chatting. Toasts were proposed to the 74th and to the Queen. All in all a marvellous weekend.
Yours sincerely
Tony Merry
